Information About Surgery for Pets

HomeVeterinary ServicesPet Surgery

At Creature Comforts Animal Clinic, we know that the prospect of surgery for your pet can be worrisome. This is why we offer the safest surgical procedures in our emmaculate, modern surgical suite. Our veterinarians perform a wide range of general surgical procedures. Our modern surgical suite is equipped with multiple types patient monitoring equipment, warming blankets, fluid warmers and pumps, and a Registered Veterinary Technician dedicated to keeping your pet safe during the entire procedure. We are very proud of our perfect anesthesia safety record.

Your pet will be examined carefully prior to surgery. We select anesthetic drugs individually for each pet based on the procedure, their age, breed and health status. Every pet will have pre-anesthetic blood tests and additional diagnostics to evaluate their internal organ function and ensure that your pet is a good candidate for anesthesia.

During Surgery

We have protocols in place to ensure surgery and anesthesia is safe for our patients:

  • An IV catether is placed in every surgical patient prior to the procedure.
  • We administer warm IV (Intravenous) fluids throughout the procedure to maintain adequate hydration and blood pressure.
  • Patients are closely monitored under anesthesia by a dedidcated technician who monitors your pet's blood pressure, oxygen/carbon dioxide levels, heart rate, rhythm & ECG, temperature, and breathing.
  • A comprehensive pain management plan is developed for every patient to keep them as comfortable as possible before, during and after surgery.
  • We use circulating warm water blankets and IV fluid warmers during anesthetic procedures to help patients maintain an ideal body temperature, to enable faster recovery and ensure greater comfort.

After Surgery

During the day of surgery, we will communicate with you regarding your pet’s progress. Your pet will be monitored closely after surgery and during recovery. When you pick up your pet, we will go over all details to be sure you understand your pet’s surgery, at home care instructions and medication plans. Please give us a call if you have any specific questions regarding procedures offered or hospital protocols.
